Jade was born at the Katherine Hospital on 12 October 2003, 5 week's premmie, with Gastrochsis (Short gut syndrome) She was flown to Sydney Hospital and operated on at 2 days old to dilate the proximal small bowel to 26 center meters beyond the duodenal jejunal flexure- the rest of the small bowel to the distal transverse colon was atretic and non viable. Leaving her with 26 centimeters of small gut and no ileocaecal valve.

Since then Jade had numerous procedures to received her "food" by (TPN) Total parental Nutrition =A central line or catheter, is a thin, flexible tubing, that is inserted into the chest wall(usually) and into a major vein. TPN is a nutritionally balanced IV solution that contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Although TPN can give the patient who would not have survived, a chance to sustain life, it is not without potential and lethal complications. TPN can be damaging to the liver, Jade had numerous infections and battled on regardless with a smile on her face

Jade was a beautiful baby that fought hard to survive but sadly that was not to be. After a 9 month fight she finally lost the battle, but Jade will be remembered.

She has inspired everyone that knew her and heard her story to make the most of the precious gift that life is and has helped others appreciate their relationships with their own children.

In her short life she achieved much by simply being innocent and taking her difficulties in her stride. She was always smiling and bringing out the best in all around her.

She was truly a precious gift to her parents and all that knew her.

To the missing of my baby sister Jade

Jade was so beautiful and funny, the best times were when I went to visit her in hospital.The first thing I would do, I would twist her longest bit of hair and Mom and Andrew would always give me a clip about the ear. My best time was when Jade was allowed to come home for the first time for 4 hours I would always spin her around in the walker and have great times together. For one thing you will always be in my heart for ever and ever.

A letter to Mommy and Daddy

Dear mommy and Daddy

I just wanted to let you know that I made it Home,

The journey wasn't an easy one but it didn't take to long,

Every thing is so pretty here, so white, so fresh, so new.

I wish that you could close your eyes and you could see it to.

Please try not to be sad for me, God is taking care of me.... I'm in the shelter of His hands.

Here there is no sadness, no sorrow and no pain.

Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again.

Here it is so peaceful when all the Angels sing,

I really have to go now,

21 Balloons to symbolize Jades Life.

Nine Purple balloons for the nine months of her life, 6 pink one's and 6 white ones for the extra 12 days Jade was with us.

In Jades short life, first there was the anguish of her illness and the fear of loosing her, but above all these Balloons symbolized the the joy of her smiling, laughing responses and her warmth as she was cuddled

All this we celebrate as we let these Balloons soar upwards. We may be able to let go a little of the pain and terrible sense of loss. We remember and hold close the knowledge that the love remains in our hearts forever,
